What is the swan's song at the brink of collapse?

 

"Swan Song," a collaboration between Halima Afi Cassells and Shanna Merola, merges photo-based collages with sculpture and installation to interrogate the impacts of colonization, resource extraction, climate crisis, and corporate power. This series prompts viewers to reflect on how these forces fracture realities and shape lives. While Merola’s dystopian vistas depict a world broken by unchecked capitalism, Cassells' work envisions a path toward collective liberation, exploring how joy can be found amidst transformation and reclaiming power and agency. Swan Song, moving iteratively down the St. Lawrence Seaway, will culminate in a book documenting this collective journey.
